André Simon is Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at The Harley
Street Clinic, London. A specialist in
surgical treatments to treat heart failure, including heart and lung

About André R Simon: Harley Street Cardiac Surgeon
Mr André Simon is an internationally recognised cardiac
surgeon with a special interest in heart and lung transplantation and the
implantation of ventricular assist devices.
He undertook medical training in Germany and the United States,
attaining his Doctorate at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel and a
Higher Doctorate from the Hannover Medical School. From 2007-2010 Mr Simon was Director of the
Hannover Thoracic Transplant Program, and was Director of the European Academy
for Organ Transplantation (EUCAT) based in Hannover from 2009 to 2010.
Mr Simon has been Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Director of
Heart and Lung Transplantation and Ventricular Assist Devices at the Royal
Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust since 2010. He also holds an honorary senior lectureship
at Imperial College, London.
A leading specialist in complex cardiac surgery
The Hannover Medical School enjoys a worldwide reputation in
the field of heart and lung transplantation, and during his time there Mr André
Simon was instrumental in the development of a minimally invasive technique for
lung transplantation that preserves the sternum, resulting in a safer and
cosmetically more acceptable procedure for the patient. Now based in London, he continues to be
actively involved in the development of surgical treatments for heart failure,
including ventricular assist devices (VADs).
Also known as ‘artificial hearts’, these small implantable devices are
used to support the heart whilst awaiting transplantation, and are beginning to
be used therapeutically.
Mr Simon is a specialist in all forms of complex cardiac
surgery including heart and lung transplantation, the implantation of VADs,
aortic and mitral valve replacement and repair, and coronary artery bypass

Clinically, Mr André Simon has an interest in all aspects of
complex cardiac surgery, including critical care and extracorporeal life
support. His scientific interests
include the immunology of transplantation and cardiac imaging. He is a regular contributor to the
scientific literature, authoring more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and
contributing several chapters to medical textbooks.
As a respected expert in the field of cardiothoracic
surgery, Mr Simon sits on several international boards and advisory committees,
and is a reviewer for a number of leading journals. He is in frequent demand as a lecturer at
international meetings and conferences.
