Dr Omar Ali is a reputable, consultant cardiologist and specialist in Interventional Cardiology in Harley Street. Training and experience
Dr Ali graduated in 2000 from Guys Kings and St Thomas’ Medical School with a first class honours degree in Cardiovascular Pharmacology (BSc). He was also honoured with the King’s College London Scholarship for the top 10 graduates of the year. He then undertook his specialist cardiology training, working alongside world renowned experts across various hospitals in London and Europe, including the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, Hammersmith Hospital and Maasstad Ziekenhuis in the Netherlands, where he undertook his fellowship in coronary angioplasty and trans-catheter aortic valve intervention (TAVI).
Dr Ali completed his doctorate degree from Imperial College London winning second place in the British Junior Cardiologist Association - International Research Award. He is still involved in research exploring optimal treatments for coronary heart disease, and is the director of the Wexham Integrated Cardiology Conference.
Dr Omar Ali has exceptional expertise in various areas of cardiology. His most favoured areas include:
- Chest pain and heart attack management. Dr Omar Ali uses the most up to date diagnostic techniques in making the diagnosis of coronary narrowing/atheroma.
- Slow heart rate and dizziness. Dr Ali performs permanent pacemaker
implantation (pacing) to treat slow heart rate, which can lead to
- Valve heart disease. He is particularly experienced in the diagnosis and
management of valve disease such as aortic stenosis and alternative
non-surgical treatments, such as TAVI assessment.
- Coronary stent (angioplasty). Dr Ali performs weekly sessions of complex coronary angioplasty using modern coronary imaging techniques such as OCT and IVUS. He performs his procedures via the wrist using the radial artery which is associated with less bleeding and early mobilisation and discharge.
Dr Omar Ali is the local clinical lead for the 24/7 primary angioplasty service, chest pain and cardiac rehabilitation services. He has many years of experience in treating a wide range of cardiac conditions, such as:

Coronary angiography: An angiogram is simply an x-ray examination of the coronary arteries, the heart pump and valves.
Coronary Angioplasty: This treatment helps improve the blood supply to your heart muscle by widening narrowed the coronary arteries and inserting a small metal tube called a stent.
Injectable Loop Recorders: These are devices placed under the skin to continuously monitor your heartbeat for up to three years.
Pacemakers: These are small devices used to treat abnormal heart rhythms. A pacemaker is made up of a small box- the pulse generator: a battery powered electronic circuit and one or more electrode leads.
Complex devices: Assessment is made for defibrillators and biventricular pacemakers for the treatment of heart failure and prevent of sudden cardiac death.
