Rubeta Matin
Dr Rubeta Matin is a renowned consultant dermatologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Devonshire Clinic. She offers expert services in general dermatology, skin cancer, skin disease in the immunosuppressed, and oral/vulval skin disease. Dr Matin holds a special academic interest in cutaneous oncology and skin disease in the immunosuppressed.

Training and experience


Dr Matin received her medical degree from the world-class medical institutes of Guy’s King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals Medical School and the University of London in 2001. During this time, she achieved a First Class degree in Biochemistry with Basic Medical Sciences BSc (Hons). Dr Matin then proceeded to continue her medical training at University Hospitals Southampton. At this esteemed institute, she achieved membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2004. Following this, Dr Matin moved on to the Oxford Deanery, where she completed her specialist training in dermatology.

Currently, Dr Matin leads a specialist transplant/immunosuppressed clinic at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. She also provides a dermatology service to the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic, a clinic that is unique in the UK. Dr Matin furthers her academic interests in cutaneous oncology by regularly working closely with industry leading haematologists and oncologists.

The expertise that Dr Matin has obtained is shared both locally in Oxford and nationally, as she actively mentors dermatology trainees to undertake high-quality clinical research and to develop clinical trials in skin cancer.

Her internationally regarded work has been published in high impact peer reviewed journals, and has been presented both nationally and internationally.

She is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at Oxford University, and regularly is involved in undertaking medical student teaching as an associate clinical tutor for dermatology. As an examiner for the final MB, Dr Matin is actively involved in developing the curriculum and assessments in dermatology.

Research interests


As an individual that is highly active in clinical research, Dr Matin collaborates with globally-renowned specialists on a wide range of national and international projects. Her dedicated research has led her to be awarded a Medical Research Council Clinical Training Fellowship, and also earned her a PhD in Molecular Mechanisms in Melanoma at the Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science at Queen Mary University of London in 2010. This work resulted in Dr Matin being presented with a number of awards internationally; including the THESIS Fellowship Award 2011/12 (BAD/THESIS society), British Society of Investigative Dermatology Registrar’s Prize (UK), and Everett. C Fox MD Award (1st prize – basic science category) at the 70th American Academy Dermatology Meeting, USA.

Dr Matin currently holds the position of research lead for skin cancer in the dermatology department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She received expert training in clinical trial methodology through the Neil Cox UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network (UK DCTN) Fellowship and the National Cancer Research Institute Skin Cancer Clinical Studies Group Trainee Scheme.

Professional affiliations


Dr Matin expands, and shares her expertise as a member several esteemed societies. These include the of Royal Society of Medicine, Royal College of Physicians, British Association of Dermatologists, British Society for Skin Care in Immunosuppressed Individuals and the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network Trial Generation and Prioritisation Panel.

Currently, she works as an associate editor for the British Journal of Dermatology and was the pioneering UK Representative on the Residents Editorial Board for the European Journal of Dermatology.
