About London Gastroenterologist Dr Philip Woodland

A graduate of University College London Medical School, Dr Woodland undertook his basic medical training on the Barts and The London medical rotation and his specialist gastroenterology training at various other leading hospitals in the capital. 

Dr Woodland was awarded a PhD from Queen Mary University of London for his research into gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). Following the subsequent award of a prestigious NIHR Clinical Lectureship, he then went on to continue his research into oesophageal disorders at the Royal London Hospital, during which time he also completed training in advanced endoscopic techniques.

Dr Woodland is currently Consultant Gastroenterologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal London Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust), where he sees general gastroenterology patients and runs a specialist oesophageal clinic. He offers private assessment and treatment for gastrointestinal conditions at the Princess Grace Hospital in Central London and BMI The London Independent Hospital in Stepney Green.

He is also the author of numerous papers and book chapters on gastrointestinal disease. 

Dr Woodland is a member of the editorial board for the Neurogastroenterology & Motility Journal and peer reviews research proposals for the Bowel and Cancer research committee and the National Institute of Health Research. He is also a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology Neurogastroenterology Committee.

Getting treatment

 Dr Woodland sees private patients at the Princess Grace Hospital Outpatient Consulting Rooms at 47 Nottingham Place in the Harley Street medical district. The Consulting Rooms are situated directly opposite the main Princess Grace Hospital with its state-of-the-art facilities, including 8 endoscopy suites. 

Private appointments are also available, by arrangement, at BMI The London Independent Hospital. NHS patients wishing to see Dr Woodland at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel are advised to contact their GP for a referral.
