Rami Sweis: Harley Street Consultant Gastroenterologist

Dr Rami Sweis is a London-based Consultant Gastroenterologist with a specialist expertise in the investigation and management of benign and malignant disorders of the upper gastrointestinal tract, including heartburn, regurgitation, achalasia, oesophageal spasm and Barrett's oesophagus. Based at University College Hospital, he also consults at leading private hospitals and clinics in central London and Harley Street.

About Rami Sweis, Consultant Gastroenterologist

Dr Rami Sweis obtained his Batchelor of Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1994 and subsequently undertook his basic medical training at the University of Edinburgh, graduating MB ChB in 1999.  He then went on to complete his specialist gastroenterology training at King's College London and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. During this time, he gained extensive experience in oesophageal physiology techniques and his interest led him to complete a PhD in upper GI physiology at King's College London in 2012.

Dr Sweis undertook further specialist training in upper GI endoscopic techniques at University College Hospital in London whilst leading the lower GI EMR service at a hospital in East Kent. He was appointed Consultant in Upper GI Medicine at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) in 2014 where he is currently Lead in Upper GI Physiology and Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL.

With over 10 years' experience in his field, Dr Sweis has built an international reputation in the management of benign and malignant disorders of the upper GI tract, treating conditions such as reflux disorders, Barrett's oesophagus, oesophageal spasm, achalasia, indigestion, IBS and food intolerances. Combining his skills as both an upper GI physiologist and an advanced endoscopist, he provides a unique, patient-centred approach to the treatment of upper GI conditions and is able to treat many functional disorders medically and through the use of behavioural medication therapy.

Research interests

Dr Sweis has a particular research interest in High Resolution Manometry and catheter/wireless pH-monitoring (BRAVO PH monitoring). He is also actively involved in researching and developing technology and techniques for the investigation and treatment of reflux and swallowing disorders.

Dr Sweis is a regular contributor to the academic literature, collaborating with colleagues both in the UK and abroad. He is regularly invited to speak about his research at national and international meetings.

Dr Sweis is available for consultation at The London Gastroenterology Centre on Thursday afternoons. The fee for an initial consultation is £245; follow up consultations are charged at £200.
