Dr Rajendra Kumar

Dr Rajendra Kumar is a highly experienced private Consultant Psychiatrist at 10 Harley Street, London, providing specialist treatment for patients with a range of mental health problems including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder and various addictions.

Dr Kumar is a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist and an Addiction Psychiatrist with considerable experience in delivering substance misuse services, as well as community and crisis psychiatric services. He completed his medical and psychiatric training in India, undertaking further psychiatric training at Dorset Healthcare Trust.

He became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1996, and completed higher psychiatric training in Leicester. He was also admitted onto the General Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatric specialist register in 2000. Dr Kumar completed his MSc in Addictive Behaviour at St George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London in 2000, receiving a distinction.

Dr Kumar currently works as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist at the St Michael's Hospital, Warwick. He previously worked at Warwickshire Substance Misuse Services at the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust as Woodleigh Beeches Centre from 2001 to 2011. He is also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Psychiatry at Warwick Medical School. He is one of the UK Representative of Dual Disorders Section of World Psychiatric Association. He is a member of various organisations including the Royal College of Psychiatrists, British Medical Association, British Psychopharmacology, Medical Council on Alcohol, Society for the Study of Addiction and Medical Protection Society.

Drug and alcohol detoxification services in London

At Harley Street Psychiatric Practice, Dr Kumar provides treatment for various addictions including alcohol, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabis, cocaine, GBH, heroin, legal highs, methadone, and other opiates, offering personalised and expert care for patients who require support in their detoxification and recovery. He also offers assessment and help for gambling, hyper-sexuality problems or online computeror video games addiction. 

Dr Kumar will undertake a thorough assessment of your health, in order to develop a treatment plan that meets your needs and requirements. You will receive motivational interviewing and specialist counselling. You might require one or more of the following options: Community detoxification with the help of you family or friends; Home detoxification with additional medical and nursing support; Treatment of co-morbid psychiatric conditions; medications to maintain abstinence; and inpatient Integrated Detoxification and Recovery Treatment (IDRT)

For inpatient Integrated Detoxification and Recovery Treatment option, you could be admitted to a detox and rehab centre, or if you wish to have treatment abroad, this can also be organised for you. Dr Kumar offers two or six week programmes which will be dependent on your needs and requirements.

New outpatient appointment costs varies from £250 to £500 depending on the cost of the clinic room, secreterail support, time to travel and duration of consultation. It usually takes about an hour for the first appointment and costs £350 at Harley Street Clinic. Follow up outpatient appointment cost for a 30 minutes appointment slot is £200 at Harley Street Clinic. Following the outpatient appointment your GP will be sent a letter detailing your assessment and treatment plan. Inpatient costs vary depending upon your choice of provider and accommodation. Standard treatment prices have been agreed with most insurance companies including BUPA, AXA-PPP, Aviva, Simply Health, Pruhealth etc, though it is advisable to check with your insurance company.

You will not incur any charges if you cancel or change your appointment upto 48 hours before your appointment.  If you cancel your appointment less than 48 hours before your appointment, you will be invoiced for £100.  If you do not attend your appointment for any reasons, you will be invoiced for the full amount.

How can I receive treatment with Dr Kumar?

Dr Kumar requires a referral from your GP or a referring professional, you can self refer if you are not registered with a GP. International patients can contact by email or phone to make an appointment and are offered a confidential service.  If they are being treated by another doctor in their country, Dr Kumar will be quite happy to liaise with your doctor.
