A Harley Street hospital has introduced a new laser eye treatment that actually dissolves the cataracts which are impairing patients' vision.
The London Eye Hospital will use the FemtoSecond procedure to revolutionise cataract procedures in the country.
Surgeons guide the laser using a sophisticated computer, allowing it to achieve ultimate precision and accuracy and make incisions the size of a pin-prick.
Bobby Qureshi, consultant opthalmic surgeon and medical director at the clinic, said that this was the single biggest breakthrough in the field of cataract removal in over three decades and it will mean patients will be safer and see better results than ever before.
He added that cataracts affect over 60 per cent of people over the age of 60 and the condition will most likely affect everybody if they live long enough.
